Transcending Autism Awareness

By learning to recognize and check ableist privilege, autistics and nonautistics can learn to communicate more effectively and to understand each other.

Jeanne

Hi, I’m Jeanne Holverstott, MS

& I am an autism specialist

I have honed my client base to autistic females and female-identifying autistics because of several key factors important to my therapeutic process.

Most relevant here are the habits of self-driven engagement and reflection. I find that this population tends to be driven to identify problems, engage in self-reflection, and use that to drive their desire and purpose for therapy.

I have found that these are the foundational elements of successful therapy with me.

Have you watched Love on the Spectrum with the autism expert who provides social, emotional, and dating advice? That is not I. Literally and figuratively. I approach clients as equals, not as infants. I speak with clients as complex, whole people, not as static, broken projects. I strive to create a cooperative relationship built on equality, trust, and creativity. I see most clients on a weekly or every-other-week frequency for individual work. I conduct all sessions via Zoom.

Autism assessments for adult women, transwomen, and nonbinary individuals. The process consists of an initial consultation, following our initial session, I email a list of forms for you to fill out. We will then conduct a series of 3-4 diagnostic interviews. Once that is finished we will have a results session to review data and diagnostic impressions. The process is a data-driven one that involves the collection of a vast amount of anecdotal, observational, historical, and assessment data. The diagnosis of autism is dependent upon this data and how it aligns with the current diagnostic criteria.

Attended by the same 3-7 people (including me). We meet weekly or bi-weekly on Zoom with cameras on! Feel free to bring a (quiet) fidget, or a favorite stuffed animal to keep your hands busy. Group is a great place to ask other autistic folks questions and advice, and to share your experiences and advice with others. It can be reassuring (and fun) to find out that you’re not the only one that does “that thing”, or who always hears the noise that electronics make, and who better to ask about the best earplugs or fidgets than your fellow autistics?
